Theresa May's 'backstop' customs plan would result in 'Hotel California' Brexit, warn Tory Eurosceptics
Theresa May’s “backstop” customs plan to avoid a hard Irish border would result in a “Hotel California” Brexit where the UK would check out of the European Union but never actually leave, Tory Eurosceptics fear.
David Davis, the Brexit Secretary, is in open rebellion against the Prime Minister over fears her plan could leave Britain tied to Brussels indefinitely after Brexit.
Downing Street has insisted the “backstop” on customs would be “time-limited” but details of the plan do not specify an end date.
