In the US, charged 38-year-old resident of Maryland Jarrod Warren Ramos, who on June 28 committed an armed attack on the editorial staff of the newspaper Capital Gazette. As a result, five people were shot and several others were injured.

On Friday, the county court of Anne-Arundel put forward charges against Ramos for the deliberate killing of five people, reports Reuters. The suspect was also arrested without the right to release on bail.

According to preliminary data, living in Lorele, 40 km from Annapolis, Jarrod Ramos was embittered at the employees of the Capital Gazette because of an article about him, which the accused considered defamatory. The note described how Ramos pursued a former classmate. Jarrod even sued the newspaper, but lost the proceedings.

Recall, on June 28 at 14:40 in Annapolis an armed intruder entered the office building where the editorial office of the Capital Gazette is located, went to the glass door of the newsroom and opened fire on the journalists who were in the room. Some employees of the newspaper managed to hide under tables and to publish in social networks messages with requests for help. Arriving at the scene, the police detained the alleged shooter, who was Jarrod Ramos.

He tried to hide from the policemen under the table. After the detention, the man refused to give evidence and cooperate with the investigation. According to the prosecutor, Ramos intentionally blocked one of the exits from the editorial building, so that his victims could not escape, reports Interfax.

About 300 law enforcement officers, including FBI agents and the US Secret Service, were strapped to the site of the tragedy in Annapolis on Thursday, Tass reports. Of the building where the shooting took place, 170 people were evacuated, writes USA Today.

From the bullets of Ramos, 59-year-old Rob Hayasen, 65-year-old Wendy Winters, 34-year-old Rebecca Smith, 61-year-old Gerald Fishman and John McNamara were killed. Smith was a sales consultant, and all other victims were journalists. And Rob Hayasen was the brother of the popular writer Karl Hayasen.

The slaughter in Annapolis has become one of the most bloody attacks on journalists in the history of the United States. On Friday, the Capital Gazette published five notes on the victims, with large photos of the victims. According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, seven journalists were killed in the past 26 years before the Annapolis tragedy in the United States.

It is known that in 2012 Jarrod Ramos filed a libel suit against former columnist and own Gazette correspondent Eric Hartley, as well as editor and publisher Thomas Marcardt. Hartley was the author of the article, which described how Ramos poisoned his former classmate in the social network Facebook. And this fact was confirmed by legal documents.

Because of Ramos, the woman changed her place three times, she was forced to change her name and go to bed with a firearm.

The court rejected the defamation lawsuit, and in 2015 the Maryland court confirmed the decision of the lower court.

On Friday, the police reported that Ramos acted alone during the massacre. For shooting, the man used a shotgun, which was legally acquired about a year ago, said Timothy Altomare, a Maryland police spokesman.

According to the press, Ramos for a long time expressed threats to journalists in connection with the publication in the newspaper of information about his criminal past.

The head of the Anne-Arundel County police Timothy Altomar also said that the police searched the shooter's house and found evidence that he was planning an attack. "He wanted to kill as many people as possible," Altomar said.

The police denied press reports that the attacker injured his fingertips, so as not to leave prints.
